"Lion King" WIP - Update 3

Title: "Lion King"
Size: 14 x 20
Medium: Graphite on Arches Hotpress
Time: about 12 hours
Status: WIP

Here is the third update on this drawing. It has become more like a study in the drawing of fur/hair than a lion! The mane has been such a challenge for me. Still a long way to go!

"Lion King" WIP update 2

Title: "Lion King"
Size: 14 x 20
Medium: Graphite on Arches Hotpress
Time: about 8 hours
Status: WIP

Here's my second update on this drawing.

I put about 3 more hours into it last night, for a total of about 8. Still a long way to go.

I think it will start to take shape better once I get some of the mane blocked in. But for now I guess he'll just have to sport a mohawk ;-)

"Lion King" - Work in Progress

Well, I started this lion two weeks ago. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the drawing in its outline form, so I guess we'll consider this step one.

I worked on it some more last night, but the changes are minimal so I'll update once I make some more noticeable changes. This is actually a drawing I'm doing for my husband, but if anyone is interested in prints, they will be available once I'm done.

Quail

You know it's almost summer when you see the quail around our house.....I took this cutie's picture last summer and never got around to drawing it until now.

I should be back on Monday with my newest work in progress, which I hope to detail step-by-step here.

WELCOME 2009

I know, I know, I'm late....

But I'm here now and that's all that matters *grin*

Every 12 months, as the New Year rolls around, we all brag about our NewYear's Resolutions. . . .losing weight, spending more time with family, or kicking some bad habit. However, most times our vision extends no further than our own noses ... AND let's just admit it, we usually don't follow through on our resolutions and goals.

So, what if we looked outward instead of inward when making resolutions? What would happen then?

I was inspired today in the strangest situation, but it got me thinking. So, I'm suggesting one resolution that might last a year, or, maybe even, a lifetime. A resolution that makes you feel good about yourself while helping others.

The idea originated from a movie called 'Pay It Forward.' The idea is simple; you do a favor or something kind for another person. The catch is, these people cannot 'repay' you... They are encouraged to "pay it forward" - in turn, doing something good for someone else. And so on and so forth.

Of course, there will be those people that break the chain. However, others still, will reach out and touch more people than you could possibly imagine.

There are many ways to touch people's heart; an action, a hug, a word, a smile. Go ahead and make someone's day. See how it makes YOU feel. Then when they smile back and thank you, ask them to pay it forward...

That being said, I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2009!

Joker - Final

Ok, I told myself that as soon as I could look at this drawing and not see anything to change I would be done...well, it seems that time has come *grin*.... for now anyway *wink*

WHY SO SERIOUS??

"Wanna know how I got these scars? My father was....a drinker. And a fiend. And one night he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn't like that. Not. One. Bit. So, me watching, he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it. Turns to me and he says "Why so serious?" Comes at me with the knife,"Why so serious?" He sticks the blade in my mouth. "Let’s put a smile on that face!"

Yes, it's true...I LOVED "The Dark Knight"....I saw it twice. Is that bad?

It's a very dark movie, totally not my style. But I loved it. In fact, it has inspired my next drawing, Heath Ledger as the Joker... and I'm not even a Heath Ledger fan...or a real Batman fan, either. Hmmmm, go figure.

Check back for the start of this drawing. . . should be a good one!

Peanut's portrait {Thursday update}

Ok, here is stage 2 of the portrait. I've been working on this for about 3 hours total. As you can see I've developed most of the nose and mouth area...but even those parts still need a LOT of work and much more darkening...I hope to even out the symmetry of his face during my next sitting and get lots more contrast in.

But that's all for tonight...it's late. Goodnight all

Peanut's portrait {Work in Progress}

Peanut

Introducing....Peanut! Around our house, he's also known as "Peanut Butter", "Butters", "Hunny Bunny".... whatever you call him, he's adorable! I've had Peanut for about 6 years now and he's been the best pet ever! If you've ever thought bunnies were just for Easter, think again! I highly recommend you check out www.rabbit.org if you are interested in a bunny. They make great house pets, can be litter box trained, and are very affectionate. Visit http://www.rabbit.org/adoption/index.html for available adoptions in your area.

Gotta love this guy with his wild hair!!

My newest portrait is of Eli, a fully hand sculpted baby chimp made by my good friend (and very talented artist) Lori Nicolls. She is an awesome artist!
